 M.L. Designs is an interior design company based out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina with over 30 years of experience. As a team highly experienced in design, architecture, upholstery, and art history, we pride ourselves on the ability to tailor our services with a level of cohesiveness and balance, constructing a space that fits perfectly to our clients lifestyle needs.

  • Our Story
    In 1982, after working for a local interior designer, Mary Lynn made the decision to follow her lifelong dream and open her own interior design firm, M.L. Designs was born in small garage apartment. Mary Lynn began working with friends and neighbors on a variety of projects, growing one client at a time. Mary Lynn has done everything from creating original oil paintings, which compliment her clients' decor, to sitting down with local architects and creating new projects from the ground up. To complete our jobs, we roll out the carpet, hang the drapes, bring in the furniture, fluff the pillows, place the art, plug in the lamps and leave our clients happy.

  • The Studio
    M.L. Designs moved to their new studio in January, 2010. Someone can always be found at the studio to help with our clients' needs.
  • The Warehouse
    M.L. Designs has maintained a large warehouse that hosts a wide variety of inventory. This warehouse became a necessity once M.L. Designs found itself needing access to unique art, accessories, and furniture when completing jobs. The warehouse is also open to the public by appointment,
  • Delivery Services
    We are lucky enough to have dedicated delivery staff and truck, making installations easy and convenient for our clients.

Our Team
Mary Lynn Cox
Mary Lynn has been practicing interior design since 1982 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She has always maintained professional memberships in design organizations. Mary Lynn was an officer of IIDA and at present, she is an Allied member of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers. She has lived in the Middle East, and has traveled extensively throughout Europe and the African continent to evaluate architectural themes and design trends. In addition to a degree from Mitchell College, where she majored in art, Mary Lynn has taken many design courses throughout both the United States and Great Britain, including classes at the Inchbald School of Design in London. Mary Lynn has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions through out her many years in the interior design field. Most notably, Mary Lynn Cox has also appeared on HGTV and photos of her rooms have appeared in national magazines. Mary Lynn and her husband, Dr. Mason Cox Jr., are residents of Chapel Hill and Morehead City, North Carolina. They have two grown sons, Mason Cox III of Chapel Hill, and Jeffery Cox of Cary, and seven grandchildren.
Jennifer Scott Cox
Jennifer grew up in Chapel Hill and was excited to move back home from Morehead City. While in Morehead City Jennifer assisted Mary Lynn with coastal projects while renovating one home and building two other custom homes. Jennifer is passionate about creating beautiful interiors that provide function for each individual homeowner. Jennifer lives in Chapel Hill with her husband, Mason Cox III, three children MacKenzie, Mason and Mary Scott along with their 3 dogs
Ami Coggin Wells
After much guidance from a family of artists Ami felt her passion was to proceed in a career which involved furniture, fabrics, and lots of color. Ami graduated from the Savannah School of Art and Design in 1997 with a BFA in Interior Design. Her career began in Morehead City, NC and continued to move to the Triangle in 2001. As both designer and artist, Ami likes to assist her clients in visualizing how change will affect their living spaces. Ami happily lives in Mebane with her daughter and extended family
Margo McKinney Kane
Margo has been a part of M.L. Designs, Inc. since 1989. With a degree in Art History from Wellesley College, Margo began her career selecting and placing art in both residential and commercial interiors. She now enjoys designing spaces which are both inviting and comfortable with a special affinity for individuals who are transitioning into retirement communities. Margo, married to the late Dr. William Kane, has two grown children: Molly and Will, along with one grandchild.
